Mercedes racer and Grand Prix Drivers’ Association director, George Russell, highlighted one proposed amendment. “There’s a line of regulation saying the inside driver must leave room for the outside driver,” he noted, hinting that this might soon be omitted.

The FIA is not only considering changing the inside driver rule but also other aspects. For instance, they’re pondering how large runoff areas at circuits like Austin allow very aggressive tactics without major risks. Additionally, the FIA has started adding small strips of gravel at some corners, which could become more prevalent.
There is a potential change aimed at addressing the loophole often exploited by Verstappen, where his wheels being ahead at the apex gives him an advantage, irrespective of line positioning. This aspect of the guidelines is expected to be revised for the 2025 season.
