Ferrari's Fred Vasseur believes Lewis Hamilton's detail-oriented approach can steer the team towards championship success in 2024.
Vasseur: Hamilton's Attention to Detail Can Lead Ferrari to Glory

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur anticipates that Lewis Hamilton will significantly enhance the Scuderia’s mindset as they continue their pursuit of a Formula 1 world title, a feat the team hasn’t achieved since 2008.

Hamilton’s Impact on Ferrari’s Championship Aspirations

This season, Ferrari fiercely competed for the constructors’ championship, guided by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. However, their campaign fell short at the season’s climax in Abu Dhabi. Despite their admirable efforts, a 21-point deficit on McLaren proved insurmountable, concluding 14 points shy of the title. Lando Norris’s impeccable final drive sealed McLaren’s victory.

In terms of Grand Prix wins and podium finishes, Ferrari recorded their most successful season since Sebastian Vettel’s 2018 drivers’ title contention, boasting five race victories and 22 podium appearances.

Revitalised Performance Under Vasseur

Since Fred Vasseur assumed the role of team principal in January 2023, Ferrari has demonstrated significant progress. Vasseur is confident that the introduction of the seven-time world champion, Hamilton, replacing Sainz alongside Leclerc next year, will drive further success.

Hamilton’s career spans 18 seasons with McLaren and Mercedes, both rooted in the UK. This British influence, Vasseur believes, will offer a refreshing perspective to the somewhat “isolated” Ferrari, one of the few Formula 1 teams primarily based outside England, with a rich tradition of Italian engineering and mechanics.

Enriching Ferrari with British Expertise

Vasseur believes that Hamilton’s renowned work ethic will prove pivotal, especially given the narrow margins that defined this year’s racing season.

“I am convinced that Lewis will come with his own experience, with the background of 18 years in F1, with a couple of titles and so,” Vasseur remarked following the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Expectations for the Upcoming Season

With Hamilton’s attention to detail and extensive experience, Vasseur is optimistic that this change will not only bring fresh insights but could be the key to unlocking future championships for Ferrari. The blend of Hamilton’s skills and Ferrari’s legacy sets the stage for what could be a transformative season in 2024.
